COVID-19 and Appliances

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has led to most of us making a lot of changes. We’re doing our part – practising social distancing, washing our hands, using hand sanitizer to an almost excessive degree, and making sure clients know that they can reschedule if they’re feeling unwell.

We’re going to continue to do business, taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of our clients, for as long as it’s safe to do so. We’re constantly monitoring updates from Manitoba Health; the situation is changing rapidly. Why are we staying in business during these times? The answer is simple: appliances are essential to combating the spread of COVID-19, and our business is appliance repair in Winnipeg. Worried about transmission or have someone vulnerable or infected in your home? Here are a few appliance-related recommendations:

Sharing a kitchen with a vulnerable or infected person? Encourage them to take their meals in their room instead of in the communal eating area. You want to avoid washing dishes by hand if at all possible – if your dishwasher is on the fritz, now is the time to repair it. Dishwashers are much more effective at killing germs and cleaning dishes. Those of you who don’t have a dishwasher need to be careful, especially during the drying process. Set aside utensils and dishes for the vulnerable or infected individual, and use a tea towel set aside for them to dry those items.

Your washing machine and dryer are especially important in limiting the spread of coronavirus. You don’t need to separate the laundry loads of the vulnerable and infected from the rest of the household laundry. You do, however, need to ensure that you’re using the hottest water possible in your washing machine. While cold water washes are leagues more efficient than they used to be, hot water is still one of the best ways of sterilizing clothes.

Avoid shaking clothes before washing them; this gives viruses a chance to disperse. Make sure clothes are dried thoroughly before putting them away; now is not the time to be drip drying clothes.

This is just about the worst time to have a washing machine or dryer on the fritz; it’s especially bad if you’re practicing social distancing or have been ordered to self-isolate or quarantine yourself. You don’t want to go to a laundromat!  Public health officials vary in their recommendations, but if possible, you want to avoid laundromats for at least a couple of days after your isolation period has ended

Those of you who have appliances on the fritz but don’t have vulnerable or infected people in your homes would be well advised to get them fixed now. The situation is developing rapidly, so getting services before you’re infected is a good idea. What’s more, it may become harder to schedule appointments in the future, pending illness among repair technicians. Fortune favours the prepared, so consider getting in touch with us right away.
